Infant Swimming Resource Lessons with Certified Instructor, Sarah Christie

About ISR

ISR is the global leader in the industry it pioneered in 1966: survival swimming lessons for infants and young children. Our team of highly-trained ISR Instructors provides the safest and most effective survival swimming lessons available. The ISR lessons our students receive today is a product of nearly 60 years of research and experience to achieve unparalleled results each day in pools around the world.

Today, our mission, “Not One More Child Drowns,” is the foundation of everything we do.

To date, ISR instructors around the globe have delivered more than 19,000,000 ISR Self-Rescue Lessons. ISR believes in multiple layers of defense against aquatic accidents which include pool fences, alarms, and active adult supervision. However, traditional lines of defense break down, and the over 4,000 drowning deaths per year bear a grim testament to the fact that traditional approaches are missing a key component: the child. ISR’s core conviction is that the child is the most important part of a drowning prevention strategy and our over 450,000 ISR graduates and hundreds of documented survival stories, are proof that children can, and do, save themselves. Children are curious, capable, and have an uncanny ability to overcome obstacles like pool fences; at ISR we take that ability and teach them skills to potentially save themselves if they find themselves in the water alone.

Meet Your Instructor

Hi! My name is Sarah Christie. I pride myself in being a busy wife, mom and ISR Instructor! I have been married to my amazing husband since 2009 and we have 5 wonderful children! They range from high school age- preschool age! They keep us SUPER busy and our hearts full. I have lived in Arizona since I was 14 years old, while my husband is a native. When our 3rd child was a toddler, we moved into our first home with a pool. It was then that I knew we needed our kids to be equipped with aquatic self-rescue sills. I found the nearest instructor and registered them in ISR right away! I was absolutely AMAZED so and PROUD of the skills he learned in just 6 weeks. Knowing our kids have the lifesaving skills that ISR lessons provide gives me such peace of mind. I loved everything about ISR and became certified as an ISR Instructor in 2018 and started teaching the summer of 2019. I hope that I can provide your children with the self-rescue skills they would need should they ever find themself in a situation alone in the water and I hope to provide you with that same peace of mind as a parent! My mission, along with ISR, is to work to ensure “Not One More Child Drowns”.

I am required, through ISR, to maintain continuing education for annual re-certification. My CRP/First Aid Certification is always current.

Lesson Structure

One on One

With safety being ISR’s top priority, ISR Lessons are always 1:1 to ensure your child can have my undivided attention while in the water. Each lesson is tailored to your child’s specific needs and skills for that particular lesson. The 1:1 attention your child receives also builds their trust in me and with that comes competence and confidence.

5 Days per Week - 10 Minutes per Day

Lessons are 5 days per week, Monday through Friday no more than 10 minutes per lesson. This unique schedule creates both the consistency and repetition needed to master their ISR skills. Though the lesson length may seem short, research shows that this 10-minute window of learning provides the safest, most effective lesson possible for infants and young children. I like to comare this to a toddler learning to walk. You would not expect them to learn by practicing for 30 minutes once or twice per week, but rather a little bit each day.

Aproximately 6 Weeks

All children learning these new skills for the first time are scheduled for 6 consecutive weeks f lessons. This is an average amount of time for a Rollback to Float student and a Swim Float Swim student. Each child is different and progresses at their own pace.

What Your Child Will Learn

ISR’s unique results are achieved through fully customized, safe and effective, one-on-one lessons with only your child and the Instructor in the water. What your child will learn, and the way he or she will learn it, is what makes ISR so different from traditional swimming lessons. Always putting safety first, ISR emphasizes competence, which leads to confidence, and provides the foundation for a lifetime of enjoyment in and around the water.

Babies 6-12 months (or those not yet walking) will be gently introduced to the water. Your child will learn how to hold his or her breath underwater, roll onto his or her back, rest and breathe while maintaining a floating position until help arrives.

Children 12 months and up (confident walkers) will learn proper breath control while underwater, a 3-4 second face down swim, how roll onto his or her back into a floating position to rest and breathe, then flip back over to swim. This sequence will continue until your child has reached safety.

Once fully skilled, all children will practice their skills fully clothed (diaper included if not yet potty trained) since aquatic accidents can occur anytime, anyplace.

*Keep in mind that not all 12-24 month year olds are developmentally ready to learn the swim-float-swim sequence. This group will typically learn how to do a short swim then rollback to float
